My name is not Khan (guest post)

My name is not Khan(guest post by Navin Mathew)

My Name is Khan. The movie was endearing, the star is not. Shah Rukh Khan is perhaps the most pompous, over-rated movie actor in modern times. A self proclaimed gift from God to humanity. So you got to hand it to him. He's got an amazing PR machiine working in his favor. But he has not always been this way, just so you know. There were times when he was the respectable actor with the understated charm. People, like me, used to want to watch him in the movies. But those were the good ol' days. Or like Pheobe would say - 'The days of yore'. But these days, he is busy doing the monkey at marriage parties, playing gilly danda with his cricket team, making crappy movies, slapping anonymous husbands to infamy and getting stopped at airports (Read the entertaining news here http://www.telegraphindia.com/1120413/jsp/frontpage/story_15370435.jsp#.T4hLdtno61k). What? Did you just say the great Khan is getting stopped at airports? OMG! This is totally unacceptable and a gross injustice to Indians everywhere. How can the greatest cultural icon of our times (no pun intended) dare be treated this way? Have we done the same to David Headley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Headley)? Heck no. We allowed that combo American come, scout for places and leave. Why? Because we believe in Athiti Devo Bhava. But SRK getting pulled over by immigration (again) right after he landed is an insult. Obviously, the Americans didnt take it too kindly that he has been making an utter fool of the cheerleaders' costume for his team. And I'll bet the Americans would have left this as a comment next to his name for the immigration officials. The usual happens. India is fuming at this disgrace, and has demanded an apology. Honestly, Krishna. Do you really think the yankies could care less? Instead they'd be having a mighty good laugh at the way we throw tantrums. We're not getting it. And all this for just an actor who flew in a private jet accompanied by the wealthiest Indian wife to speak at an American University, probably about Bollywood. But ofcourse, the greatest actor in the world deserves to be treated with respect and need to be fought for. We all do. Even those Indian sailors languishing in Pakistani prisons and caught by Somalian pirates. My take: I think SRK should choose to drop the Khan, so that he can pass through airport immigration a little easier the next time and we get to hear a little less of him. 1. finally someone who shares my distaste for the srk. his acting is awful (even though i loved "my name is khan"as a story), the movies he produces is horrible and he's endorsing anything and everything to make more moolah.

but one thing i can't agree with you is regarding him being stopped at airports. hey, that was insulting behavior and he was stopped cos of his name and not because he behaved in a suspicious manner or anything. horrid!

    1. Thank you Raphael!
SRK is one of few Bollywood actors who can think no end of themselves.
Now, I never said he behaved suspiciously. I only said we must have a more balanced view of what requires our Foreign Minister to interfere and not. Case in point, the foreign minister didnt really raise much of an issue when the Somalian pirates keep our sailors hostage. Besides, Khan is not the first Indian to be stopped. And it was not like he was imprisoned. This was all standard procedure and something that you and I will have to go through if and when we pass through their airports.

  2. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but
I find this matter to be really something which I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I am
looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of
    it!

  4. SRK is more & more making a fool of himself esp. in the ads.... he has become insufferable....why did he have to publicize this? for the 2nd time....we only have made him believe he is a god.

    1. Completely agree with you, Indu.
He is beyond insufferable. I think we must exchange him for Dawood.

  5. Couldn't agree more. But as far as his acting goes, I have a feeling directors make him overact! See Karan Johar movies or Aditya/Yash Chopra movies compared to movies like Swades or Chak De, the only two I can stand him in! For the rest of the post, I completely agree. I doubt if others would have raised such a hue and cry about it as did he! Some people will do anything for publicity!

    1. Chak De was average.
SRK has stopped acting after he got his first crore. He has been hamming it since.
Thanks for enjoying the post. :)

  6. I have started hating him for the stupid tantrums he keeps throwing all the time..! When I watched the movie My name is khan.. I felt the airport scene was not required.. These days you can always see him on TV from toothpaste to supari Ad he's everywhere... I hate that stupid babu ji papa ji pepsodent ad just in case he didn't know it is not at all funny.. !! Infact it's nerve wracking.. :/ And why do India care so much for the celebrities and demand for apologies so stupid I wish they realise we have bigger issues to be taken care of! Wake up Government of India stop running behind the whining baby! Great post I am happy someone finally bashed him!

  7. I used to be hardcore fan of Sharukh during Swades days...But day by day I observed that he is more of money minded bur not socialism..My mind prompted me to transform and that's how I am a great admirer of Mr.Perfectionist Amir Khan.I do accept that Shahrukh is fabulous actor on screen.but becoming murkier in off screen.Anyways Nice post. Its great indeed to gather the views of other loggers thru indiblogging.Happy Blogging.BTW thank you for reommending my blog to others.

    1. Bollywood actors and Indian cricket players have one thing in common. They are both over-rated and have enormous egos.
